The Cat in the Hat
By: Devin Powell
A story about children who become bored, but a cat in hat changes all of that.
One day Sally and Joe were home alone. It was a boring day, nothing at all to do. Then all of a sudden a cat in a hat shows up, the Cat in the Hat! The cat said they were going to have so much fun. Their pet fish had different ideas. He did not like that cat, he thought he was bad news.
Implication: By the fish saying that he doesn't like the cat and that he believes he will make a mess; this implies that the cat may cause a problem with the clean house.
The cat began to make a mess and then brought his friends thing 1 and thing 2 out of a big red box. They were peculiar little creatures. They made the house an even bigger mess. The cat, Sally, and Joe lost control of the things. The cat said if the things were not put back into their box that their box would explode; causing a huge mess hole in their house.
Implication: By the cat saying that the box would explode it implies that the house could become an even bigger mess, maybe so big it would be unclean-able.
The children and cat went out looking for the things. It wasn't hard to find them, after all they left a mess trail behind them. The things got lose in the house once they returned and couldn't be caught. The box was close to exploding point. The box exploded slinging purple slime everywhere and all kinds of messes everywhere. The children didn't know how to clean the mess, their mother would be furious.
Implication: By the children saying that they couldn't clean the mess it shows that there may be no solution. Their mother was going to be furious, but how would they clean it all?
The things continued to reap havoc on the house. The horrible unclean-able mess that was already there, well it got worse. The children realized if there was any hope at cleaning the house they would have to catch the things. With lots of hard work they finally caught the things. Before they could put them back in the box, the mess had to be put back in the box. They had no idea how to do it.
Implication-By the children saying that they still can't clean the mess, there is still no solution to the huge mess in the house. The only problem now it to do something with the cat and clean the mess.
The children were furious with the cat. He hadn't done anything but bad. They fussed at him and fussed at him. The cat became very sad and said it was all in good fun. The children said what had happened wasn't fun but crazy. The cat promised he would fix everything and then left.
Implication- By the cat saying he would fix it, it makes us wonder if he said that jus so he could leave or if he really will fix everything.
The cat returns with his huge "cleaner-machine-thingy" . Quick as a flash he cleaned the entire mess and put it in the box. He apologized and said he meant no harm. The children forgave him and said goodbye. The cat said goodbye and left.
Implication-By the cat coming back and cleaning we can tell he is a good honest guy. The cat was trustworthy and kept his promise.
