Timorous

Full of fear/ fearful - "The timorous child wandered out into the night."

Admonitory

warning - "The man made an admonitory gesture."

Dormer

also called a dormer window, a vertical window protruding from a slopping roof - "In the dormer of the dark house, there was a movement."

Gamut

the entire scale or range - "In the rainbow they saw the gamut of color."

Incommodious

inconvenient, not providing much room - "The garret of the old house was quite incommodious."

Immolate

to sacrifice by fire - "The explorers stumbled upon a shrine possibly used by the natives for immolation."

Provender

dry food such as hay and oats for livestock - "The cow lazily stared back at the man as it chewed its provender."

Beguile

to influence by trickery, flattery or other means - "The adviser to the throne had beguiled the king"

Whet

to sharpen by grinding or friction - "The stranded man worked on whetting a spear."

Skid

a plank bar or log, one of a pair, on which something heavy may be rolled or slid upon - "The children moved their makeshift raft to the water on skids."
