The symbol for gold is Au. It has an Atomic Mass of 196.966569 and it's Atomic Number is 79. There are trace amounts in sea water & is found in a natural state also small traces can be found in the human body. Gold is a soft metal with a lot physical properties. Gold is both malleable and ductile. It is a heavy metal and one gram of gold can be hammered out into a thin sheet of gold and just 230 atoms or so thick. Gold leaf is translucent and the transmitted light is greenish blue. Gold metal reflects yellow and red, leaving the greenish blue color. One gram of gold can be drawn into a thin wire 165 meters long and just 20 micrometers thick. X-ray data suggest electrons from filled d bands near the electron energy surface of the s-p conduction band are excited by near ultraviolet and blue energies, giving rise to the characteristic gold color of the metal. It has a melting point of 1947.52 degrees and a boiling point of 5378 degrees a density of 19.3g. Also there is a 3.1×10-7% abundance of gold in the earths crust. The top 6 uses of this element are jewelry, finances and investments, electronics and computers, dentistry and medicine, aerospace, medals and awards.
