Synopsis of the show

A lion prince, Simba is born in Africa and is destined to be king. But after his father tragically dies in a stampede Simba runs away to the jungle, where he lives with a warthog and a meerkat for the majority of his teenage years and early adult hood. When Simba is called back to his pride, he discovers what it truly means to be king.


Richard Hudson was born on June 9th 1954. He is a Zimbabwean stage designer, and he won the "Tony Award for Best Scenic Design" and "The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design" for his set design in "The Lion King". Richard studied at the Wimbledon School of Art. He won a Laurence Olivier Award for designing a season of seven plays at the Old Vic Theatre and is a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI). In 2003 he won the Gold Medal for Set Design at the Prague Quadriennale. He has designed sets for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, Royal Opera, English National Opera, La Scala Milan, Opera National de Paris, Lyric Opera Chicago, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and in Zurich, Munich, Amsterdam, Venice, Florence, Houston and Washington.
