Please join the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board in partnership with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Council for the           4th annual celebration to honor Dr. King at the park.

After a MARCH for CommUNITY, organized by Minneapolis Public School Board Director Dr. Tracine Asberry, the festivities at the park will start with the unveiling and dedication of the Beloved Community Project surrounding the Freedom Form II sculpture.  The project is a collaboration between the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Legacy Council, the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center and informed by community dialogue.   The granite benches with quotes from Dr. King laser cut into metal wraps will provide the community a space to reflect on Dr. King's dreams for racial equality and peace without violence.

The celebration will include musical entertainment from Timotha Lanae, Jovonta Patton & DFY and the Andre Fischer Twin Cites Mobile Jazz Project, along with food vendors and free children's activities.  Community members will also have the opportunity to learn about the new playground planned for 2015 and to meet the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park's new Director, Peter Jaeger.    We hope you'll join us on Saturday, August 23rd for the celebration at 4055 Nicollet Ave. from 1:00-4:00 pm.  For more information contact the park at 612-370-4908 or
