Experienced Oregon Attorney Wayne Shammel
Wayne Shammel spent nearly two decades as general counsel for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians in Roseburg, Oregon. His primary duty in this position involved the management of all strategic legal platforms on behalf of the tribe, particularly in connection to how federal and state laws influenced new contracts and legislation effecting the tribe. A present independent legal consultant based in Roseburg, Wayne Shammel additionally advised the tribe’s elected leaders and senior management group on various corporate and government issues.
Mr. Shammel earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies, he enrolled in a law program at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating with a juris doctor.
When he is not practicing law Wayne Shammel enjoys steelhead and salmon fishing on the North Umpqua River. He is also a member of Optimist International, a global group comprised of over 2,500 clubs dedicated to improving the lives of local children and the surrounding community.
