Lakshmi is the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. She is the wife of Vishnu. She is usually shown bestowing coins and flanked (guarded) by elephants. Lakshmi is everything to Vishnu, she is his power. The two elephants standing next to Lakshmi symbolize the duty and fame that comes with world wide wealth. The word Lakshmi is really from the Sanskrit word Laksme, meaning "goal." Therefore Lakshmi actually represents "the goal of life". Lakshmi also stands for compassion. Her four hands represent the four ends of human life, righteousness, genuine desires, wealth, and the ability not to be reincarnated again or never. She provides wealth for Vishnu which helps him with his creations. When Lakshmi sits or is holding a Lotus flower it refers to purity and spiritual power. She is usually seen rideing a owl.
