Romeo and Juliet
Sacrificial Love Story
Who is Romeo and Juliet?
Romeo was a part of the Montague family and his family were against the Capulet's for an unknown reason. Romeo was closest to Mercutio who wasn't a family member of the Montague's by blood but considering his loyalty until his death, he was considered family. Romeo fell in love with Rosaline, but knew that his love for her was one-sided because he knew she would never fall in love with him. That was all before he met Juliet, proving that he was only physically attracted to Rosaline.
Juliet was a part of the Capulet family and her family were against the Montague's for an unknown reason. Juliet was very close to the nurse, who's been there for her all of her life. Her mother and father barely pay attention to poor Juliet because they have better things to do than to spend time with their daughter. Juliet was secretly arranged to marry Paris, but Juliet refuses to give him the time of day because she's in love with Romeo.
A sacrificial love is love that requires a sacrifice in order for something important to be saved.
1. "Shall I believe
That unsubstantial death is amorous
And that the lean abhorrèd monster keeps
Thee here in dark to be his paramour?
For fear of that,
I still will stay with thee,
And never from this palace of dim night
Depart again." -Romeo Montague
Romeo stating that he will kill himself in order to be with Juliet which is himself admitting to sacrificing his life in order to be with her.
2. "Here’s to my love! (drinks the poison)
O true apothecary,
Thy drugs are quick.
Thus with a kiss I die." -Romeo Montague
Romeo's last words that represents how he dies from the sacrifices he made in order to be with Juliet.
3. "Oh, noise? Then I’ll be quick.
Oh, good, a knife!
My body will be your sheath.
Rust inside my body and let me die." -Juliet Capulet
The lasts words of Juliet represents how she commits suicide and makes a sacrifice in order to be with Romeo.
4. Came to this vault to die and lie with Juliet.
Where be these enemies?—Capulet! Montague!
See what a scourge is laid upon your hate,
That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love!
And I, for winking at your discords, too
Have lost a brace of kinsmen. All are punished." -Prince
He tells both families that God has found a way to kill their hate by love and that two people commit suicide because they knew that their love wasn't allowed by both their families and that they would be disowned as a family member.
5. "A glooming peace this morning with it brings.
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head.
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things.
Some shall be pardoned, and some punishèd.
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo." -Prince
Prince was ending the story stating that Romeo and Juliet's sacrifice was the saddest thing that has happened in order for their love to be accepted.
Work of Art
I believe that Romeo and Juliet is a sacrificial love story because they both had to commit suicide and die in order for their families to be able to get along and realize that they have an awful affect on their families and that they need to stop this feud. When Romeo got the news from his cousin that Juliet died, Romeo went to her body and killed himself next to her not knowing that she was really taking a 48 hour nap from a drink she drunk to avoid her marriage to Paris. Then when he's dying, Juliet wakes up and sees him dying and when he's dead, Juliet kills herself along with him by shoving the sword in her stomach. The outcome is a Lose/Win situation because even though Romeo and Juliet lost their lives, The Capulet's and Montague's are no longer deemed enemies and have ended the feud that has affected themselves and their families greatly.
