the 9th brightest star
Achernar is approximately 144 light years away from the Earth. Which is equivalent to...well its millions of miles away from us. This is one of the brightest stars, it is a bright blue from what we can see. It's one of the bluest stars that we know of for now.
It is hard to know the exact size of stars but from what astronomers have found, Achernar is about 7,929,000 km in radius. The approximate temperature of this star is 15,000 K (around 26,000 to about 32,000 F). Obviously this star as well as others is extremely hot. A few characteristics about this star are: about 7 times the mass of the sun, never rises above the horizon, and has roughly the same latitude of Santiago.
