About Wes Edens
Over the course of his career, Wes Edens has been a key figure in the field of private equity, leading the acquisition and management of numerous portfolio companies and launching multibillion-dollar funds that cover a broad spectrum of investments. A principal and co-chairman of Fortress Investment Group LLC, Wes Edens has spent more than 15 years building the company into a nearly $60 billion investment management firm with holdings in alternative and traditional investments alike. As the head of private equity, Wes Edens manages Fortress’ investments in asset-based businesses and oversees the Castles, three publicly traded companies focused on the commercial real estate market. The former chief executive officer and current chairman of Newcastle Investment Corp., Wes Edens drives the NYSE-listed real estate investment trust toward the continued acquisition of senior housing properties, distressed real estate and collateralized debt obligations, and other opportunistic investments that represent tangible assets. Outside of Fortress, Mr. Edens serves as a trustee of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation.
Possessing more than 25 years of experience in finance, Wes Edens began his career with Lehman Brothers following the completion of his BS in business administration from Oregon State University. Eventually named a partner and managing director at Lehman, he left in 1993 to join BlackRock Financial Management, where he focused on matters of private equity. Alongside a team of experienced private equity managers, Mr. Edens founded Fortress Investment Group in 1998. Since then, Fortress’ private equity business alone has invested more than $20 billion on behalf of institutional investors.
