Planning a Tokyo Itinerary around these Festivals

When we were planning our trip to Tokyo, we hunted a lot to know about the festivals and other activities that takes place so that we can plan according to the festival dates and partake in them. As a result we choose the best time to visit is when the city is in the festive mood. We created our tokyo itinerary 5 days keeping in mind we can attend some of these events and festivals.

1. Sanno Matsuri – This is one of the most important festivals in Tokyo and the start of summer festival season. It goes on for 11-days and has variety of events lined up to be enjoyed with your family.

The Golden Week is celebrated during April 29 to May 5. Many Japanese workers get a week's holiday as a result of few national holidays in that period. Golden week has a large number of events and festivals happening in most areas of the city. Spring Grand Festival at Meiji Shrine is one of the most visited one’s. Some attractions also offer "Family Days" during this period, meaning one day in the Golden week they offer free entry for families.

Hana Matsuri also called as the Flower Festival was one celebration which we enjoyed in a grand manner with people in Tokyo. The birth of Buddha is venerated during this celebration.

July or early August is the right time for people who love to enjoy Sumida Hanabi or firework display. We admired the stunning firework displays which were a pleasure.

So whether you are planning for a 5 days or a week's itinerary for Tokyo, make sure you coincide your travel dates with one of these festivals/events that will show you the real and charming city of Tokyo. Have a great family time in Tokyo.
