Oligarchy Definition- a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.

Pros: An oligarchy government is good because it allows the others in the population that are not part of the group with power to carry on with their daily lives and not have tot worry about making government decisions.

Another pro is that because the leaders/decision makers are a group of people, it is rare that the group makes a bad decision or is over controlling like a dictator might be.

Cons: A con of this type of government is that it is rare that new people with different opinions come into the group. Once the group gains knowledge and makes decisions they are less likely to let in more people that may have different ideas.

Another con of the oligarchy government is that ideas and opinions of the common people are not thought of. The main group with power does whatever they want and does't consider the people's opinions.

Quotes about oligarchy governments:

"But if there's an erosion at home, you know, Thomas Jefferson warned about a tyranny of an oligarchy and if we surrender our democracy to the tyranny of an oligarchy, we've made a terrible mistake." -Pat Robertson

"The second corruption of the state is oligarchy, in which the military elite is narrowed down to a few ruling families of immense wealth and prestige, who now openly flaunt their wealth and possessions."- Pierre Stephen Robert Payne
