The First World Series
The first World Series, in 1903, was between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boston won by winning fives games to three games out of the eight game series. They could play up to nine games.
Over the years the games rules have changed dramatically. For example, they originally had only nine total pitches per batter, until 1903 when they added a four strike rule. Another example is when they used either a marble or rubber home plate until 1887 when they changed the rule to rubber only. And one final example when the pitching box was first eliminated and replaced with the pitching slab and since then the size of the slab has been tampered with many times.
