Solving Systems of linear equations

Using the Subtraction method

Step 1: Solve for Y. 2x+3y= 130

2x+5y=190

-2y=-60

2 2

y = 30

You have to solve for Y first. So you Get the 2 problems and subtract them from each other. Then, you divide them both by 2.

Step 2: Solve for X.

2x+5(30)=190

2x+150=190

-150 -150

2x= 40

2 2

X=20

Now you solve for X. Substitute the Y for 30. Multiply the 5 by 30. You get 150. Then, subtract 150 by 150 then 190 by 150 and get 2x=40. then, Divide them both by 2 and get X=20.

2(20)+3(30)=130

40=90=130

130=130

Step 3: Check. plug in your answers for X and Y into the original problem. Multiply them by the Coefficients, then if it equals the original problems answer, it's right.
