Michigan is home of one of the great lakes. That is Lake Michigan. Some people do fishing charters on Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan is 22,394 sq miles. This lake is a freshwater lake which means it only has freshwater fish. This state has 3 nicknames which are The Wolverine state, the Great Lakes state, and the Water Wounderland. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a National Lakeshore near Empire. It's tall sand dunes rise above Lake Michigan. All the great lakes are touch Michigan but one and that is Lake Ontario. Did you know? That about 50,000 gallons or 75 bath tubs a second go down Tahquamenom falls.  In the state the highest mountain is Mount Arvon which is 1,979 feet tall. There is more than 1,700,000 white-tailed deer in Michigan. Ancient Indians built huge mounds of earth near the Grand Rapids. The mounds were used as burial sites. A guy named 'Etienne Brule' was the first white person to come to Michigan. River Raison Battlefield is in Monroe. This battle between British and American troops took place on January 22, 1813. It was part of the War of 1812 (1812-1815).
