California Gurls Teenage Dream
Every artist was first an amateur.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Perry was deprived of rock and pop music when she was growing up. She went into the music industry not knowing how to really sing the song selections she chose. She had to learn and rebel against her parents to get as far as she has. Perry was an amateur going into this business and is now a famous pop singer.
Katy Perry grew up with strict pastoral parents. When she was 9 she started taking singing lessons and learned to play guitar when she was 13. It was then she started doing different music then what her parents approved of. In 2001, Perry released her first album, Katy Hudson (which is her actual last name), of gospel music because of her mother and father. Perry was inspired by former Queen member Freddie Mercury.
Perry has many transcendental qualities. Among them are importance of nature, free thought and confidence. Her song Peacock can be taken in many ways. The actual meaning behind the famous line "I want to see your peacock," is referring to being pretty on the outside but wanting to know what is on the inside. The same goes for her song Hummingbird Heartbeat, which is talking about someone being in love and their heart going "crazy." Perry's songs such as, "Ur so gay" and "I kissed a girl" show her side of free thought (Katy Perry Songs List). She isn't afraid to say what she feels. She has confidence in all her songs. Perry plays a role in creating the lyrics for all her songs. She puts creativity into all her music. "I think I'm a better artist because of it. If I wasn't creative, maybe I would be a little more guarded" (Katy Perry).
I feel that songs are better when the artist has confidence in them. Perry has confidence in all her songs and that's what makes her a better artist. I think it's neat how she puts a twist on adding nature to her songs. Her song Peacock fits perfectly. No one never truly knows a person until they get to know them and see through the "beautiful" outside. Sometimes having free thought isn't always a good thing. People tend not to think things through before saying. In Perry's case, she isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in. I feel importance of nature, free thought and confidence all fit her perfectly. Everyone needs to have confidence in themsleves.
I like to go out there looking like a strong woman, because I am strong. But I am also a woman who goes through all kinds of problems and highs and lows.
The quote above shows Perry is confident in her work and what she does. She wants to leave her own mark for fans who listen to her music. Perry knows she is a strong woman and can make it through those lows and highs.
