Islam was founded in Mecca in 610 CE by a man named Muhammad. People who study the Islamic religion are called Muslims. Islam is monotheistic, meaning they only believe in one god, named Allah. They also believe in the 5 pillars including: declaration of faith, daily prayer, Alms for the poor, fasting during Ramadan, and hajj. They study their religion using a book called the Quran in a place known as the Kaaba. the leaders of the Islamic religion include the Sunnis and the shi'as. Sunnis believe that any good Muslim can be a leader, where as the shi'as believe leadership is based on heredity.
