Potassium

Element Project By: Eva Theel Mrs. Mahalik Science GT Period #: 5

Atomic Information:

  • Number: 19
  • Weight: 39.0983 (1) amu
  • Symbol: K

This is a cup that was made out of potassium. The creator said that they "cut cubes under oil to reveal shiny surfaces". Usually potassium is a silvery color, but it started to oxidize, so it's now a blue-like color.

This is extremely clean potassium. You probably can't find cleaner potassium than this 225 g ampule, s totally clean. It's very hard to ampule potassium without at least getting a little bit of oxidation.

These pieces of potassium were put into argon glasses so they wouldn't oxidize. If you took them out, they would turn blue like the glass above.

History:

Potassium was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy.

Potassium was discovered in 1807.
