Reading Log: Part 3

Question 1: How much time does Winston have left after he spotted the woman dressed in blue supposedly spying on him before the Thought Police arrest him?

Question 2: What is the potential influence the proles have?

Response: "If there is hope . . . it lies in the proles" (Orwell 95). As 85 percent of Oceania's population, the proles undoubtedly could overthrow the totalitarian government. However, they are oblivious to the government's atrocities, at least in the sense that they do not see it as out of the ordinary. The potential influence the proles have at this point in the book is Hereford irrelevant.

Question 3: Will a successful rebellion against the government eventually occur? Or will the book end darkly with the government still in control?
