About Me:Her real name is Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Chanel was credited with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" and popularized the acceptance of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post WW1 era. She was classified as a prolific fashion creator and influenced beyond couture clothing. She created jewelry, handbags, and fragrances and later on shoes. She was known for her lifelong determination, ambition, and energy which applied to her professional and social life.
She earned her name CoCo while singing at a popular entertainment venue of the era. She started to design hats for a man, but her career really took off once theatre actress Gabrielle Dorziat modelled her hats in the F Noziere's play Bel Ami in 1912. In 1913 Chanel opened a boutique in Deauville financed by Arthur Capel where she introduced deluxe casual suitable for leisures and sports. She sold hats, jackets, sweaters, and the sailor blouse. She then opened a store in Biarritz in 1915. Only after 1 year of operation, the business was thriving so much that in 1916 Chanel was able to reimburse Capel his original investment. This was the jump start to acquiring the entire building at 31 Rue Cambon.
