WAR IN THE AIR
My Lovely Wife,
It has been a while since the last time I wrote to you. Many things have changed here. I guess you have heard what happened to the German troops. They retreated from France , which was the main battlefield , back to Germany.(http://www.greatwar.co.uk/timeline/ww1-events-1918.htm)It was a great news for the soldiers who were fighting against them. Unfortunately, we have lost an enormous number of soldiers in the couple last battles and there are even more soldiers injured. The only thing they are hoping for is the end of the war.
Things weren't much better in the air either. the RFCs have significantly helped our air forces but Germans were one step in advance. they invented a new kind of plane that is made of both metal and wood. It must have an accurate engineering. The metal would support the wings and prevent them from breaking off while the plane is flying with a high speed. However, I believe the metal would make the airplane heavier so it will be harder to control.(http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft/ww1-german-military-aircraft.asp). I don't have a clue how pilots control this new invention.
Many things have dramatically changed over here. Four years have passed from the start of the war in July 16th, 1914.(http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/znj7pv4) I can see that we are all sick of it. The United States joined the war in April. I can remember how happy I was when I was told that U.S. had become one of the Allies. I'm sure German forces can't do any better. They have lost many soldiers in the last battle.
There are some rumors that Red Baron is dead. Soldiers say he died in April.(http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/red-baron-killed) How he controlled the airplane was unbelievable. The way he flew in the air was like an eagle that was looking for its hunt. Although I praise him as a perfect pilot but I'm somehow happy about the sad rumors. If the rumors are true, Germans will definitely loose in the war. They can't do anything without their mighty Red Baron.
Moreover, many soldiers think the war is close to its end.(http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/timeline_of_world_war_one.htm)The Allies completely defeated the Central Powers. the Central Powers are fighting for nothing. It's just a hollow space they are fighting for.
I hope the war would end soon too. I miss you my love . I thought I would die in the Bloody April. There was no chance of surviving for me but thank god, I finally survived. I was only thinking about you during that battle and I believe that was what kept me alive. I miss you a lot . I can't wait until I see your lovely face.
p.s. I will write to you whenever I get a chance. As you are aware of it, I'm in the battlefield and there isn't much time to sit down and write with patience . Take care and excuse my messy writing . I had neither enough time nor paper.
Lots of love,
