# Momentum

Momentum is a characteristic of a moving that is related to the mass and the velocity of the object.

The Law of Conservation of Momentum states that, in the absence of outside forces like friction, the total momentum of objects that interact does not change.

The formula for the momentum is....

The reason momentum is representied by p is because when writing the simplified equation (m=m*v) there are two m's that are undefined, so p is used to make the equation proper (p=m*v).

The reason a heavy moving van can have the same momentum as a small motorcycle is because the van could be moving slower and the motorcyle could be moving at a greater speed then the van.

A perfectly sticky collision is defined as one in which there is no loss of kinetic energy in the collision. An non-sticky collision is one in which part of the kinetic energy is changed to some other form of energy in the collision.

If a piece of clay was thrown on the ground it would represent the form of inelastic collision because clay is not exerting a force on any other object so the kinetic energy changes.

Angular momentum is the quantity of rotation of a body, which is the product of its moment of inertia and its angular velocity. The rotational inertia around the rotation axis is an angular speed. Which is due to conservation of angular momentum.
