World-Wide Inspiration

Why Oprah is a hero to the world

  • Oprah was named the first African-American billionaire by 2003
  • Oprah has donated over $50 million dollars to charities all across America and continues to give more
  • With the help of Nelson Mandela, she opened ChristmasKindness; an organization that gives toys and happiness to South-African children
  • She took her "Oprah Bill" (a bill that helps abused children in bad homes) to court and got it signed by Clinton in 1993
  • She knew by the time she was 19- working as anchor/reporter for WTVF-TV in Nashville- that she wanted to be on TV
  • She helped struggling authors out by bringing them to attention with her book club (Oprah's Book Club), and they instantly became hits
  • As yet another way to help people, Oprah started the Oprah Winfrey foundation. An organization that helps with the welfare, empowerment, education, and well-being of children, women, and families across the country
  • When she got her TV show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, she didn't want to be greedy. She constantly gives her viewers prizes and helps people on her show

Why Oprah is a hero to us
