IPad apps for mobile learning
Module 9: Personal Mobile Learning
In this module we researched 5 different apps that support personal mobile learning and I have provided examples of how they could be used. Below are 5 examples of IPad apps that could be used for education and I have listed how they work with assisting students.
I Write Words
This app is used to assist children with writing letters. The child uses their finger to trace the letter in the alphabet by following the crab that shows the direction to write. There is also audio sounding out the letter. This tool could be used one on one to help children who struggle with English in an elementary class.
Remind: Safe Classroom Communication
Remind (formerly Remind101) gives teachers a free, safe and simple way to instantly text students and parents. Teachers, coaches, or administrators can send reminders, assignments and homework directly to students' and parents' phones. Interactions are safe because phone numbers are kept private, and teachers save time because the messages are one-way. For students and parents, Remind provides an easier way to stay informed outside of the classroom. This would be a good tool available in the classroom as it would hold students and parents accountable when assignments are missed.
Hangman automatically downloads for you the latest top news from Internet. When you play at the easy level you have to figure out one word from a random news article title. At the medium, hard, and expert have there own longer titles.
This would be a good program to use to learn about current events in a social studies class. Children can work alone or in small groups.
iBooks is a great way to download and read books. iBooks includes the iBooks Store, where you can download the latest bestselling books or your favorite classics – day or night. Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.
This tool would be a great way for students to have access to their novel studies. They can have a large number of books downloaded at one time. This is a more environmentally friendly way at having books.
Elevated Math provides initial instruction or intervention on math topics that cover place value, estimation, large digit addition all the way through Algebra.
This app would be great for helping students with their math skills.
