1918- Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei.

1925- Mandela attends primary school and get the name Nelson Mandela.

1939- Mandela attends Fort Hare College in Alice.

1940- Mandela is expelled from Fort Hare for organizing a student strike.

1942- Mandela began attending African National Congress (ANC) meetings.

1951- Nelson Mandela was elected president of the ANC.

1963- Mandela appears in court for The Rivonia Trial, where he was put on trial with nine others for acts of sabotage.

1964- Mandela and seven of the others who appeared in court with him are sentenced to life in prison.

1998- Mandela is admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Tuberculosis.

1990- Nelson Mandela is released from prison.

1993- Mandela is awarded Nobel Peace Prize with FW de Klerk.

1994- Mandela votes for the first time in his life. He is also inagurated as the first South African president.

1999- Nelson Mandela steps down after one term as president. He also establishes the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

2000- Mandela is diagnosed with prostate cancer.

2013- Nelson Mandela spends his 95th birthday in the hospital and dies on December 5th.
