Figurative Language Within Songs

" Let it go" by Idina Menzel

" The wind is howling like this storm inside..."

" The wind is howling like this storm inside..." is a simile. It plays a key role in the song because it expresses the mixed emotion she is feeling. She doesn't really care what people think anymore, so she is just going to let it go and be herself.

" A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri

" I have died every day waiting for you..." and " I have have loved you for a thousand years and I will love you for a thousand more..."

Both of the above quotes from the song are hyperbole's. They express her overwhelming love for one person and only that person helping to say that pretty much she will love them forever and no matter what.

"The Fox" by Ylvis

" Dog goes woof..."

This is an example of onomatopoeia. Many times throughout the song there are many examples of onomatopoeia. This helps to prove a point of how we know a ton of animal noises but we don't know what the fox says.
