Dalton's Law

Sometimes you mix gasses in a high vacuum to grow stuff, such as glass. Here you would have a controlled mix of silane and oxygen and each would have a partital pressure that when added up, along with the others that are not pumped out, would give the total pressure.

John Dalton was the first to recognize that the total pressure of a mixture of gases is the sum of the individual components of the mixture.By convention, the part of the total pressure of a mixture that results from one component is called the partial pressure of that component.Dalton's law of partial pressures states that the total pressure of a mixture of gases is the sum of the partial pressures of the various components.
