It would not ruin the park. If it were big and distracting, people might feel more sad about the memories than focus on actually remembering.

It was a suitable location because this war killed many people, and that meant a big memorial had to be made. It fits right between the other monuments because it is just carved straight into the ground.

In my opinion, I believe that people can walk up, touch the wall and or leave flowers, in respect of the lives that were lost. Or if they knew the person that had lost their life in that war, they could leave a flower as if they were at that particular person's gravestone.

This does reflect the Vietnam War by showing it wasn't a war that people wanted to be a part of.😬

It couldn't be a political statement because there was so many people who disagreed with it but at the same time, Making a political statement for a memorial like that would be quite inappropriate

The reason Maya Lin believed that the memorial needed to be built in the ground is because she didn't want it to distract from the park. The park looked so nice and peaceful she didn't want it to turn depressing.

People are able to touch the wall and leave flowers because they have probably had loved ones die there. The creators made it so its like a giant grave stone. 😢

The memorial couldn't be a political statement because it wasn't a war we had to fight in and most soldiers fought against their will. It needed to accomplish the fact that we need to remember the soldiers for doing what they did.

They are most likely able to touch and leave flowers because this was a monument to honor the dead and remember

I think that people should be able to touch the monument because they need to feel as if they were still really close to that person who has passed away. They should also be able to place flowers by the monument, so they pay their respect towards their loved ones. 🌸
