American Culture: Jackson Ahlers

American culture is very rushed and fast paced. Our culture thrives on having full schedules with work and school. Many Americans have to have more than one job just so the can support their family. The American flag is a symbol to our culture. We are very dedicated to our society and culture.

My video is a woman speaking about what she thinks American culture means and how it has changed. She addresses the differences between our culture and our society. She also addresses the mores (laws), folkways (rules), and norms (how you're "suppose" to act in society). She says that American values are all different to each individual.

Carl Marx had a conflict perspective. He believed that only the strongest people and societies should survive. Auguste Comte had a functionalist perspective. He believed that if societies and the people in them worked together, the world would have order in a time of chaos.

There are several different cultures in the world. Material cultures (cultures that value physical objects such as cellphones) and nonmaterial culture (cultures that have strong beliefs or strong ties to their religion). There are also things that almost every culture has like families or religion (culture trait). We also have things that only our culture has like the 4th of July or Turkey on Thanksgiving (culture pattern).

Spongebob is a popular tv show in our culture. It is a funny show for kids and adults too. This show has been playing for 15 years. It shows that something as simple as a sponge working as a fry cook in a fast food restraint can entertain our society.

English is the primary language spoken in our society however, there are hundreds of different languages people speak in the U.S. Some people think that you should learn english if you are going to live in our society but this is not the case.
