Role Model

Is Nelson Mandela

Mandela's Childhood

Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in Transkei, South Africa. When he was born his father named him "Rolihlahla" literally translating into trouble maker! His father was the cheif of the Thembu tribe.

Mandela was educated at the University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand and qualified in law in 1942. After his many years in school he began getting in to politics and realizing how his country is in apartheid and how terrible the country has become.

As Mandela realized his country needs help he joins an anti apartheid group called the "ANC" and they are willing to literally fight for their country's freedom from apartheid, Mandela was the lawyer for the ANC and during a case he was pursecuted and was under arrest. He was supposed to have life in prison.

Nelson Mandela has proven to be my role model by his many accomplishments and his life in tough and great. He is a tough man that has become tougher by the events in his progressive life. I have learned to not give up in hard times and to realize the world around me. Best of all to live life to the fullest.

A few Mandela quotes

  • “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
  • "Living isn’t just about doing for yourself, but what you do for others as well."
  • “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
