Michael Angelo's parents owned a bank in Caprese but when the bank closed Michael's father took up a position in the Florentine government. Michael was young when his family moved back to Florence the city Michael always considered his true home. Florence was a vibrant art center during the Renaissance. It was in Florence discovered his passion and talent for the arts.
In his older years Michael worked more and more with architecture projects including his work on the interior of the Medici Chapel in Florence. From the 1530's on Michael mostly wrote poetry, about 300 of them survive. Michael left Florence permanently in 1534 for Rome, he lived the rest of his life in Rome until he died in 1564 at the age of 88.
