Industrial Revolution

Turnpikes were developed when Britain set up the Acts of Parliament which gives them power to collect road tolls.

The problem that was solved was that, now that they have roads to drive on they can get places they need to be.

Turnpikes made life better then and now because if we didn't have turnpikes invented in the 1800's we probably wouldn't have them now, and wouldn't be able to get to the places we need to be.

Turnpike communities faced serious free-rider problems.
