Curriculum Courier

For the week of April 10, 2015

“What I like most about change is that it’s a synonym for ‘hope.’ If you are taking a risk, what you are really saying is, ‘I believe in tomorrow and I will be part of it.'”

– Linda Ellerbee

Response to Intervention (RtI) Webinars

You are invited to participate in a series of webinars designed to provide information about implementation strategies for RtI. National experts in applying the principles of RtI in reading, writing, mathematics, and behavior and a respected Texas administrator who has successfully implemented RtI on her campus will lead the one-hour webinars hosted by Southern Methodist University (SMU). Each free webinar provides one hour of professional development continuing education credit (CEC) awarded by the Simmons School of Education & Human Development at SMU.

The first in the series, RtI & Administrators, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration for the April 14th webinar is now open.

Other webinars are scheduled as follows:

Bluebonnet Night at the Coppell Public Library

May 12, 2015

Please add to your calendars, and invite our families to attend. Librarians from Coppell ISD and Coppell Public Library will set up book stations around the library. This is especially for learners in grades 2-5, as we will be highlighting the current “crop” of Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List titles.

Learners in grades 3-5 who have read at least 5 books from the list of 20, voted on their favorite book in January, and come to a gala party in their school library in May!

Science: Linda Cook

Principals - let me know if you have any teachers (K-8 and biology) who are interested in being trained in Project Wild and Project Wild Aquatic. If there is interest, I can provide this training at the Coppell Nature Park in May.

Elementary Content Specialists - We will meet on April 9th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm at Austin Elementary in room C201.

Secondary Department Chairs - We will meet on April 16th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm at North in Dean Boykin's room.

This weekend is the City of Coppell's Earth Fest celebration. Many CISD schools will be sharing their sustainability efforts through public presentations at booths. Earth Fest is from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at City Hall's Town Plaza.

Brad and I have asked each sustainability committee member to provide feedback on possible next steps with our Sustainability Rubric so that we are continuing to make progress. Feedback needs to be provided by Earth Day, April 22nd.

I will assign the evaluations to the appropriate “group” in Eduphoria, but appraisers will have to go into Eduphoria, select the staff member and indicate the instrument by which the staff member is being evaluated.

Assessment: Debbie Youngs

Due to the number of issues involving a lack of active monitoring, I have created a PPT to review this topic. Please ensure that all staff view it and have time to address the discussion questions. It shouldn’t take more than 15-20 minutes. The link is:

I apologize for asking you to take time away from meetings that I know already have a packed agenda, but active monitoring is imperative for security, confidentiality, and to ensure all learners end up with a test that may be scored.
