Year 5 - Graphic Design 2

Designing Logos - week starting 17/03/2014

Objective for today's lesson: Start to design your bicycle shop logo on the computer, using Pixlr. The logo should be entirely black and white, like these examples:

Go to the Pixlr website:

Click 'Create a new image' and set the size to 800 x 800, as shown below:

IMPORTANT: WHEN YOU FINISH, CLICK FILE > SAVE, THEN UNDER THE 'FORMAT' TITLE, CHOOSE .PXD AS THE IMAGE TYPE. IF YOU DON'T DO THIS, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CARRY ON WITH IT NEXT WEEK!

Now, you can start designing your logo. You might need to use some shapes from Google Images, such as the shape of a bicycle wheel or a cog. Search for:

Silhouette bicycle
Silhouette cog
Silhouette bike wheel
etc...

... to find black and white images.

Remember, you can't take an entire design from Google! Copy and paste the parts you need onto your logo design and add to it.

Hints:

To resize something: Edit > Free Transform

If copy and paste doesn't work: Save the image to your folder, then open it in Pixlr, select it all using the Marquee Tool and then Edit > Copy, Edit > Paste (or Control+C, Control+V)

Pixlr uses layers, like a collage. The layers palette on the right shows each part of your design on a separate layer. If you want to change anything, click on its layer in the palette first.
