Early life =>Born in Medellin, Spain, He first served as a soldier in an expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velázquez in 1511.Cortés was born in the Castilian province of Extremadura, in the small city of Medellín. He came from a respected military family but was a rather sickly child
Conquered the Aztecs=>In 1518, Cortés was to command his own expedition to Mexico, but Velázquez canceled it. Cortés ignored the order and set sail for Mexico with more than 500 men and 11 ships. In 1519, the expedition reached the Mexican coast. He became allies with some of the native peoples he encountered, but with others he used deadly force to conquer Mexico. The aztecs have a prophecy saying that the white gods would one day return and that would be the end of their tribes. This is why it was easy for him to conquer the Aztecs. He fought Tlaxacan and Cholula warriors and then started taking over the Aztec empire. He had his sights on overthrowing ruler Montezuma II in the Aztec capital of Teno. He marched to Tenochitilán, the Aztec capital and home to ruler Montezuma II. Cortés took Montezuma hostage and his soldiers raided the city. Cortés left the city after learning that Spanish troops were coming to arrest him for disobeying orders. The Aztecs eventually drove the Spanish from the city, but Cortés returned again to defeat them and take the city in 1521. After this victory, Cortés continued to seek opportunities to gain wealth and land.
Grading scale=> I gave him a "c" because he did cause the destruction of the aztecs and started wars with other tribes.
Future references=> We should learn more about him in our history classes. WE should defiantly have December 2 off from school to remember him and also watch the movie "The Road to Eldorado".
