Charity Work and Death: After a massive earthquake rocked the capital city of Nicaragua, Clemente arranged for several airplanes full of supplies to go to Managua. He decided to ride there on the fourth flight, but the plane was overloaded by over 4,000 pounds. The plane crashed, and his body was never recovered.

Fun Fact: The Roberto Clemente Award, given to a baseball player who is involved in charity, is named for Roberto Clemente.
