My name is Josh Linman. I grew up in Florida and went to Florida State University (love Seminole football). My dad's an ELCA pastor so I've been around the church all of my life. My girlfriend Laura lives in South Carolina. I also love Chick-fil-a.
I'm starting my senior year at Luther. Did my internship at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa. I got to spend most of my time at our Ankeny campus and will be continuing on staff at Hope while I finish up classes. I will be focusing on student ministry and adult discipleship in my new role.
I'm in seminary because the church needs pastors who are passionate about building a discipling culture. Churches like Hope are great at bringing people in for weekend worship but growing those attenders into disciples that can make other disciples is a much more difficult task. The church doesn't do a great job at apprentice based education and I think that's what it takes to make Jesus followers.
My life was changed by a few key mentors who invited me into a deeper relationship and challenged me to grow in my faith. Jesus calibrated this same kind of invitation and challenge with his disciples as he called them to follow him. Jesus gave his disciples access to his life, Paul called people to imitate him (1 Cor 11:1), and the early church shared life together (Acts 2:42)...we need to do the same as the church today.
