Explorer: Louis Jolliet
by Mrs. Galvin
Explorer of the Mississippi river
The explorer Louis Jolliet was born in Canada in 1645. In 1672, after he attended a Jesuit school, he was chosen by a French governor to explore the Mississippi river to see where it emptied out. Jolliet took six other companions and traveled 2,500 miles down the river by canoe. Eventually they discovered that the Mississippi flowed into the Gulf of Mexico.
