Who:South Korea and North Korea fought each other in the Korean War.  The United Nations helped South Korea.  Russia and China supported North Korea.

What:At first the UN defended South Korea from North Korea.  Later they went on the offensive.  The UN took back South Korea's land but had trouble when China joined the war.  In 1953, a treaty was signed that ended the war.  A 2 mile demilitarized zone was made between North and South Korea to prevent wars.

Why:North Korea wanted to take over South Korea.

     The Korean War took place in North and South Korea and lasted from 1950-1953.  It started because North Korea wanted to take over South Korea.    North Korea was allied with Russia and China.  South Korea was allied with the United Nations.  The UN had first defended South Korea from North Korea.  Later it went on the offensive and took back South Korea's land.  The UN had trouble when China started helping North Korea.  In 1953 a treaty was signed that ended the war.  Both sides kept their land but a 2 mile demilitarized zone was added to prevent another war.
