The religion of Animism began in Africa around 2100 B.C. The two main beliefs of their religion are 1.) All things, living and non living, have a spirit, and that They must worship the spirits of nature like trees and animals. 2.) Worship their ancestors, call upon them for help and offer sacrifices to please them. Animism also had an affect on their culture. It made everyone have great respect for nature, and also their ancestors. also Animism has been practiced by man tribes and involves many festivals and feats. surprisingly This religion is also look at as a Devil worship by some people because of so many primitive cultures being incorporated.
Hindusim originated in India in around 2300 B.C. this religion started to become more complete during the Mauryian Empire. The Holy book that they worshiped was called the Vedas. They believe in four main things. 1.) Brahman: the universal spirit, basically perfection. 2.) Reincarnation: the belief that ones soul is reborn into another body in hope that you will someday reach Brahman. 3.)Karma: The total of ones deeds in a lifetime. 4.) Dharma: This decides what ones Karma will Be. they're the acts that someone is suppose to do in their lifetime. Another important thing is, The Caste System: A social classification system for the Indian people. Also more than 85% of hindus are located in India, and it has more than 1 billion followers.
Buddhism is originated in India in around 550 B.C., but it wasn't accepted because the Hindu social order was too strong, so it moved out to China, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia. These people have one main belief, called the Four noble Truths. this says 1.) Everyone suffers. 2.)suffering is caused by having desires. 3.) to end suffering, end you desires. 4.) To end your desires follow the Eight-FOld Path, which helps create a peaceful and well behaved culture. Buddhism also has around 376 million followers and was founded by Siddhartha Gautama.
Taoism was created in China by Lao-Tze in 550 B.C. The holy book that they follow is called the Tao Te Ching. They follow Tao which is the way of nature and also Yin(feamaleness, moon, cold, darkness and earth) and Yang (maleness, sun, heat, light and heaven). Yin and Yang create balance on earth. This belief affected the culture. People learn no to change the natural process and to accept things as they occur. also and important thing to know about Taoism is that it is a social philosophy, not really religious. Taoism's spiritual leader is called a Sage and has over 20 million worshipers worldwide.
This religion was created in China by Confucius around about 550 B.C. The holy text they follow is called the Analects. All the people followed two main beliefs. the Five Relationships, (which shows peoples role in society) 1.) Father over son. 2.) Older brother over younger brother. 3.) Husband over wife. 4.) Ruler over subject. 5.) Friend equal with friend. the Four Main Principles are: 1.) Education is important for their society. 2.) Government officials should be good role models. 3.) Everyone should know and accept their role in society. 4.) Respect your elders (Filial Piety), which also is what affects their culture. Confucius also had an interesting life. When he was three his father died leaving his mother to raise the family, and he lived during the Warring States Period.
Judaism was created in the Middle East in about 1100 B.C. Their holy book was called the Torah, which is the first five books of the old testament. Their holy city is Jerusalem, and since they worshiped one god, they were monotheistic. This belief affected their culture by making them want to live a good moral life, and the 10 Commandments were given to them to help them achieve that. The first Jewish temple that was made was by Solomon, and in the Torah it says God created the world in 6 days.
Shintoism was created in Japan around 450 B.C. The main beliefs were that the spirit of Kami exists in all things, and that their Emperor was god-like. This affected their culture by making them have great respect for the natural world and their Emperor. This has over 3 million followers, and doesn't have official scripture, but has ancient records called the Kojiki.
This religion was created in the Middle East in about 33 A.D. Their holy book is called the Bible (the old and new testament). Their main beliefs were that they were Monotheistic, and that Jesus, the son of God, was the Messiah. Also they obeyed the 10 Commandments. These beliefs helped with peoples behavior and were easy for people to understand, which is why so many people convert. Christianity has 2 billion followers. The highest religious professional is the Pope.
Islam was created in about 622 A.D. in the Middle east. They follow the holy text of the Qur'an. They believe in one god, to follow Allah, that Mohammed is the Messiah who spread the word of God, and most importantly the Five Pillars of Faith: 1.) you have to make pilgrimage to Mecca. 2.) you must pray 5 times a day facing Mecca. 3.) you must fast during Ramadan. 4.) you must give to charity. 5.) You must recite " There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." The Religious laws affecting the culture by making them the official political laws as well. Islam has 1.3 billion worshipers, and The place of worship is called a Mosque.
