If love was a disease, would you take the cure?

Lena Ella Haloway Tiddle.

Lena Haloway the main character, is afraid of everything that isn't the norm. She has ninety- five days left before her treatment of being cured of the disease love. Lena does the unthinkable and falls in love.

Alex is a guard for the city of Portland, Maine and is supposedly already cured for the disease. Once Lena runs into him several times they start to become really close. Will Alex go as far to save her by risking his own life??

Orphan Lena thinks the treatment will fix all her problems but meeting Alex he shows her that love isn't such a bad thing after all.

"I don't like to think that i'm still walking around with the disease running through my blood. Sometimes i swear i can feel it writhing in my veins like something spoiled, like sour milk. It makes me feel dirty. It reminds me of children throwing tantrums. It reminds me of resistance, of diseased girls dragging their nails on the pavement, tearing out their hair, their mouths dripping it."

This novel describes the idea of love by imagining what would happen if love was outlawed and destroyed by society. In Lena's world everyone goes through a procedure to stop them from loving.

Who would I recommend this book to?

I would recommend Delirium to anyone who loves a great love story. This book is thrilling and shows life without one of the most important emotions, love. Delirium shows the struggle between a girl and what she has believed all her life until she meets a boy who flips her world upside down.
