Welcome to Week #12!
We are going to talk about Okinawa culture, food, and traditions in this unit. Also, we are going to learn how to talk about our plans for the week/weekend and how to say we don't plan to go anywhere or do anything. The picture above is of Okinawa. Isn't the ocean beautiful?  Don't you wish you were there about now?? ^_^

IMPORTANT NOTE:  GRAMMAR IS GETTING MORE DIFFICULT.  YOU NEED TO BE STUDYING/PRACTICING MORE TO GET IT CORRECT. MAKE SURE TO ATTEND THE COACHING SESSIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN MUCH-NEEDED CONVERSATION AND GRAMMAR PRACTICE!

Week at a Glance

NOTE:  VOCABULARY SLIDES MUST CONTAIN SENTENCES, NOT JUST WORDS.

Seniors!!  Please Read

Final grades are scheduled to be submitted on May 26。 If you will need grades in before that date, please let me know soon. You are expected to complete all assignments and projects for this course to earn a grade for the semester. A ZERO on your final project will bring your grade down dramatically!

NOTE:  You are entering a danger zone! There are only 4 lessons & a final project left until the end of the semester!! Grammar has gotten more difficult, so you need to practice more than before…

COMMON GRAMMAR ERRORS

Below are some grammar errors that seemed to creep their way into many of your assignments last week:

な Adjectives

な is used as a connector between the adjective and the noun only. Do not use it at the end of a sentence in front of です。

Here are some examples:

とくい スポーツ は バレーボール です。ー YES!!

バレーボール は とくい スポーツ です。ー YES!!

バレーボール は とくい です。 - NO!!!! There is no noun after な。This is not correct.

Combining 2 verbs

When combining 2 verbs in 1 sentence, you need to use the てForm of the verb for the 1st one. Here are some examples:

としょかん に いって、 ほん を よみました。 I went to the library and read a book.

バスケ を して、 いえ に かえりました。I played basketball and went home.

プール で およいで、 シャワー を あびました。I swam at the pool and took a shower.

Don't end with the てForm

Many of you are ending your sentences with a て Form. That is not correct. Sentences that are light-hearted commands end with the てForm, but no others. Examples:

しゅくだいをして!(This is a command。Do your homework!)

しゅくだいをします。OR しゅくだいをする。This is "I will do (or do) homework."

10じにねて!(This is a command. Sleep at 10!)

10じ に ねます。OR 10じ に ねる。”I (will) sleep at 10:00."
