The Grand Canyon is about 277 miles across Arizona. It is 7,000 feet above sea level. It was formed from melting glaciers. The fast moving water slammed against the rocks and broke them down, wind also wore the rocks down. It was formed millions of years ago.

It was discovered by native americans 10,500 years ago. In 1869 the Powel expedition discovered the geology of the canyon and mining opportunities there. Tourism is the main use of the canyon. A railroad was built in 1901 for tourists.

It is a wonder because it is not something that someone built but was created by natural resources. It is something that everyone wants to go see because it is so beautiful.
