In session 1 we learned about DNA. Next we made a replica of what DNA looks like with little plastic pieces. The replica was a twisted ladder shape. We then cleaned up and was finished with the session.
In session 2 we learned about mitosis and meiosis. We then filled out a map of chromosomes. We made the chromosomes out of plastic tubes and strings. Finally, we placed them on the map in the correct spots.
In session 3 we learned about phenotypes and genotypes. We filled out a worksheet and looked at colored slides to see how traits are carried on. We then paired lego bricks to make an organism.
In session 4 we sorted chromosomes and used a punnett square. We used legos to sort the chromosomes to see what the sibling will look like. Finally we used the punnett square to describe the traits of the sibling.
In session 5 we learned how traits are inherited. The dominant trait beats out the recessive trait and is inherited. For example, if a mom is color blind then the female siblings will be color blind, but the males will not.
In session 6 we learned about chromosomes. A chromosome is filled with a nucleus, DNA, and genes. A chromosome looks like an x and it is a big part with how a baby looks like.
In session 7 we reviewed about what we did in this module. We also used lego bricks and used punnett squares to learn more about them. Finally we reviewed more about genetics.
A career in this module would be a scientist who studies genetics. It would be perfect because you already know all about the genes and chromosomes and DNA etc. If you had a head start you could be a great scientist.
