My Big Campus
What is it? My Big Campus is a web based social learning network. The service provides a monitored and secure means of providing social media tools in classroom. It's interface is set up similarly to Facebook's, so many users are familiar with the set up.
How is it useful? My Big Campus provides an educational resource library, which is a collection of online resources that are shared among My Big Campus users. Included in the resource library is educational videos, wikis, documents and websites. Teachers can also add to the library when they come across any online educational resources.
What is it? Quizlet is a free online tool that allows students to create their own flashcards. It also includes modes such as study or game mode. Quizlet allows you to save your previously made sets of flashcards, create new ones, or browse existing ones made by other users.
How is it useful? Quizlet includes 6 different study modes including: Flashcards, learn, speller, test, scatter and space race. After exploring these modes children become engaged while studying at the same time. It also has a built in audio feature including 18 languages which is perfect for language study, practicing pronunciation, and learning vocabulary.
What is it? iHeart Touch is an ipad app that allows users to explore the heart and specifically explore the causes and treatments for coronary artery disease. iHeart Touch allows you to watch accurate animations to learn more about anything from the normal anatomy of the heart to a coronary artery bypass graft.
How is it useful? This app is more aimed at high school biology classes where students can get an in-depth look at the heart. iHeart Touch allows you to watch and share heart information with others and educates you in how to keep your heart healthy!
What is it? Toontastic is a free iTunes app that is a creative storytelling app. It allows students to animate, draw and share their very own cartoons with peers and teachers worldwide!
How is it useful? Toontastic allows students to be creative when creating stories. It allows for a switch up from traditional story writing with a pen and paper. Students can let their imaginations run wild and really let their stories come to life.
What is it? BrainPOP is a collection of educational websites with short animated movies for K-12 students. These featured movies are paired with quizzes, supplemental information and related tools. The videos cover almost every subject.
How is it useful? Brainpop is useful because teachers can access movies that relate to almost any topic, and can fill in for a last minute lesson plan if needed. The quizzes after the videos also test the students knowledge to see if they really grasp the concept.
