The Amazing Empire of Kush

Kush 1600-1100 B.C.E.

Kush was an important trading hub and or center because it grew around the fertile banks of the Nile River. Because of its location Kush was known for its rich gold mines. The Egyptian word of gold is Nubia (which comes from nub) that is also another word for Kush.

Kush-730-650 B.C.

After the collapse in the New Kingdom, Egypt fell into political chaos and became very unstable. So, Kush took advantage of Egypt's weakness and invaded. By that, Kush conquered Egypt in the mid 700s B.C.E.

KUSH 590-410 B.C.E.

In 590 B.C.E., Egypt invaded Kush and destroyed its capital city called Napata. So, the Kushites decided to make Meroe their new capital. Meroe's location was good in several ways. For example, because of Meroe's location, Kush remained an important center of trade. Meroe lasted about 1,000 years.

KUSH 300's B.C.C.-350 C.E.

After splitting away from Egypt, Kush returned to its African roots. Kush also received the African practice of female leadership. After lots of years of fighting against Rome, Rome signed a peace treaty with Rome, now Kush had defeated the most powerful empire in the world.
