This book is about 5 factions; Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice chose to become dauntless on deciding day, which everyone has to go through when they turn 16. What means to choose another faction you abandon your family and go your own way. Beatrice changes her name to Tris and is thrown into the dauntless world. She will find out things about herself and secrets of the world she lives in that will put her life in danger.
This book is a very good read. It is well written and full of action packed scenes, a little bit of romance, and plenty of suspenseful scenes that will have you questioning who to trust all the way til the end. I loved this book, it reminded me of the "The Hunger Games", but better. I love books about different societies and ways of life because it shows me how different our lives could be and how great it is to have the power to make our own choices.
The fault in our Stars
by: John Green
This book is about 2 kids who meet at a cancer group. It shows the love, dreams, and the struggles of Hazel and Augustus and their battle with cancer, Augustus was given one wish from a foundation that gives cancer patients a wish. Augustus uses his one wish for hazel so that she could go meet her favorite author. They arrive in Amsterdam, where he lives, and find out he is nothing like the amazing author she thought he was. He is a drunk. The trip was well worth it for Augustus and Hazel because when they get back to the State's they realize that was their last trip they will ever take together. Augustus takes a turn for the worse and receives the news that he isn't just going to loose his legs to cancer, he will loose his life.
I absolutely loved this book because it remind me of me. I do not have cancer but at one point I was days away from being tested for Leukemia. I can really relate to this book because I have the same perspective on life as they do .
How strong is the will of people?
This book really shows how strong the will of people are very well. These kids have a death sentence and they go through life everyday knowing that they, at some point, will die. They are going to die way before it's their time. Hazel and Augustus find each other and know that one of them will die, yet they still fall in love and live what little time they have left loving each other regardless. When Augustus said to Van Houten (the author of Hazel's favorite book) " I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choice. I hope she likes hers." This quote shows how strong of a will they have. They know that in the end they will get hurt but they choose to love anyways.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
By: Cassandra Clare
Clary's mom has always been protective of her and one day Clary witness's a murder that nobody else can apparently see. She is suddenly thrown into a world that isn't so human. When Clary's mom is kidnapped Clary meets up with a shadow hunter named Jace. They team up and are on the hunt for the Mortal Cup that the evil Valentine desperately needs in exchange for Clary's mom.
I personally hated this book. It was not the book for me it was very boring and very predictable. It had a lot of action in it, that i usually like, but the fact that it was sci-fi really turned me off. I wouldn't read the other books in the series.
How strong is the will of people?
Even thought I didn't like this book it went a long with my big question because Clary is thrown into a world she did not know existed until she witnessed a murder and her mother was kidnapped. It takes a strong willed person to carry on with a straight head through that. It really showed her strength when she said "My mom wanted me to find it. Not valentine. and not them either." It would have been so easier for her to just throw in the towel and let other people who are trained and know how to deal with these monsters to find the cup.
Heaven is for Real
By: Tod Burpo
Tod, Sonja, Cassie, and Colton burpo were a normal family, living in a small town in Nebraska, who seemed to be having a string of bad luck. Colton got reals ick when they were on vacation. He threw up for almost two weeks straight until he was transferred to children's hospital in Denver. he had an amergency surgery to remove his appendiz. H eas in the hospital two weeds trying to throw up all of the poison in his poor little body. He almost died. A year later coton started to talk about how angels sang to him and how he sat on Jesus's lap in heaven.
This book was a really great book and I loved reading it. This story really touched my heart and made me really think about my life, how I view it and how I live it. The fact that a child who had no preconceived ideas new all about things in the bible, really got to me. One thing I didn't like about the book was it jumpe round a lot. It didn't feel like the story was in order, which made it hard to follow. It was still an easy read and didn't take that long to read and kept my interest.
How strong is the will of people?
In this book, I wouldn't measure the will of Colton but the will of Colton's parents, Sonja and Todd. I would say that when it came down to it Sonja and Todd really kept it together when Colton got extremely ill, almost didn't survive the surgery, and then afterwards say that he met Jesus in heaven. To keep calm and talk to Colton about it and figure out if it was the truth or not relied on a great deal of strong will.
My Answer To the Big Question
I feel like the will of people suprises me every day. Everyone will rise to the occasion and be as strong as they need to be for themselves and others.
Big Question and Us
Everyone, at some point, will face a hardship in their life. They will have to persevere through that hardship and have a strong will to come out on top. It is important to realize that. For example, our advisory project is a hardship that we will have to deal with. We will have to have a strong will to finish that paper and come out on top!
This nonfiction book, Heaven is for Real relates to my life in more of a spiritual, personal way. It opens my eyes to the not so ordinary every day things that we need to be grateful for. Colton made me realize how amazing life and God is when he said "Jesus told me that he died on the cross so we could go see his Dad” The innocence of Colton and that simple statement made me rethink a lot of things. This book is a refresher to my faith and hopefully to others.
If you like a book that pulls at your heart strings and challenges the way you view life, this is the book for you. Augustus and Hazel take ordinary day things and question them in ways that you would never think of. It changes your view point on life, and makes you stop and think that maybe we shouldn't be so accepting of the things around us. The Fault in Our Stars, is a great book for teens and adults alike. You won't find another book quite like it.
