A cinquain is a 5-line poem that usually goes in 1-2-3-4-1 pattern with stresses. The first line has 1 stress, the second line has 2, the third line has 3, the fourth line has 4, and the fifth line has 1. The American cinquain is heavily inspired by Japanese haiku's and tankas. Adelaide Crapsey is known as the created of the American cinquain.
