What is forced labor?

Forced labor is any work or services which people are forced to do against their will under the threat of some form punishment. Almost all slavery practices, including trafficking in people and bonded labor, contain some elements of forced labor.

Where is it practiced?

As you can see in this picture there is a risk of being taken into slavery. It is being practiced all over Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and Mexico. Half of forced labor victims are in India where it is the worst.

Who is affected?

Almost 30 million people are victims of forced labor and human trafficking.People are sold into brothels, forced into manual labor, victims of debt bondage or even born into it. In this picture there are kids making carpets

What can be done to stop it?

The Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor, and Human Trafficking (OCFT) investigate in human trafficking around the world and they are working on stopping forced labor in India. The UN is still trying to stop slavery and it has been a problem even when it has been banned a while ago.
