Avoiding Identity Theft

Identity theft is when someone uses your information without your permission.  They could use things such as your name, address, credit card, back account numbers, and medical insurance account numbers.  There are many ways to avoid identity theft.  When you shop in public you need to watch your wallet, do not lose your credit/debit card, and do not tell people your PIN number.  When shopping online you should use passwords people can not guess, use secure websites, and have security software on your computer.  

What to do if your Identity is stolen

If someone stills your identity you need to act fast. This can prevent some of the damage it causes.  There are three steps you need to take.

Step 1. Place an initial fraud alert on your three credit scores

Step 2. Order your credit reports

Step 3. Create an identity theft report
